Suffering from Shingles

Can you possibly help? I have been suffering with the after effects of shingles for the past 19 months. Although the shingles cleared within a week, the nerve ending still give me agonizing pain. this is on the inner side of my left arm from the wrist up to the arm pit which is rather sensitive.


I have been having acupuncture treatment at the pain clinic the pain is still there which has a painful burning effect and last for hours at a time.

Is there is oils that you could recommend to easy this pain?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Matthew,
I'm sorry you have been having to deal with Shingles. I understand it is very painful and as you already know can linger for months.

I'm on several Aromatherapy lists and another aromatherapist has used a blend that includes Ravensara and Ravintsara blended with a carrier oil - Tamanu.

You could try blending those together and apply a small amount to your arm.

I will warn you though that Tamanu oil is a very sweet smelling and sticky oil. So you may want to dilute it part way with a Coconut oil. Also a very good carrier oil for use on the skin.

You could try the following recipe:

Expeller Pressed Coconut oil - 3 tablespoons
Tamanu oil - 1 tablespoon
Ravensara - 12 drops
Ravintsara - 12 drops

Blend well and apply a thin layer on the affected areas.

I would probably also add Helichrysum 6 drops and German Chamomile 6 drops

These two essential oils are good at reducing inflammed skin and nerves. They also have anti-inflammatory properties which should help. And Helichrysum is also an analgesic (pain reliever).
